J. Alexander’s- Overview
Alexander’s offers high-quality American food, including wood-fired steaks and juicy burgers. On a rotating basis, each restaurant offers its own unique menu. The food is prepared in an elegant setting, but it’s not too expensive that it’s out of reach for the average American. This restaurant is actually part of a group that includes Redlands Grill, Stoney River and other restaurants. Each restaurant has a similar menu and offers a full-service bar. There are 15 restaurants, most of them in the South or Midwest.
The History of J. Alexander’s
The company was established in 1971 by three businessmen in Nashville, Tennessee – Jack C. Massey (Sr.), Earl Beasley, Jr. and John Neff (Sr.). The company was formerly known as Volunteer Capital Corporation. Volunteer Capital began by leasing equipment. It moved on to fast food and later bought a chain of family-style restaurants called Mrs Winner’s Chicken and Biscuit. Volunteer Capital changed the name of its company to Winners Corp. Winner’s restaurants suffered and began to lose money in the mid-to-late 80s. RTM Inc. bought the company in 1989. Lonnie J. STOUT II, who had been appointed as chairman following Jack C. Massey’s passing in February 1990, took over. Volunteer Capital took over the company’s name and began to open new casual dining restaurants.
The corporation opened its first restaurant in Nashville, Tennessee, in May 1991. Because so many businesses had failed, the restaurant was situated on “Death Row”, a street that locals called “Death Row”. J. Alexander’s was a success from the beginning. The company continued to open new restaurants and grew exponentially over the 1990s. The name of the corporation was changed to J. Alexander’s Corporation in 1997. In 2012, Fidelity National Financial purchased the company.

J. Alexander’s Honest Review
Alexander’s offers a wide range of menu options. The most popular are the marinated steaks or tender prime ribs. The seafood and chicken dishes are great options for those who don’t want to eat red meat. Rattlesnake Pasta is a popular choice for dinner. It’s a combination of chicken, Southwestern spices and peppers. Friendly and attentive service is a hallmark of the restaurant. The food is delicious and flavorful. Also, high marks for the food presentation and variety.
