In addition to essays, term papers, exams and everything else, students are faced with an equally difficult task for them – writing an essay. So, what is an essay and how to write one? If you take the literal translation from the French (where this word and the genre itself came from), it translates as an essay, an outline, a sample.

Almost all students, without exception, find it difficult to write an essay, because everyone is accustomed to writing works according to a plan and the brain habitually displays a well-established picture of writing, an essay is a flight of thought, fantasy, it is an expression of the author’s personal point of view. And, of course, it is difficult for students to open up and freely write an opus on a certain topic, it is difficult for them to figure out what mla format date is, and many other details. The main feature of an essay is a narrative on just one topic. In essence, it is an answer to a single question. If you have been assigned an essay – how to write it, let’s try to figure it out. There are three simple rules to follow when writing an essay.

How to write an essay

First, the topic itself should be interesting to you and, what is equally important, familiar. Here it is unlikely that you will be able to express your point of view about a subject about which you know nothing. When choosing a topic with your teacher, choose what your heart is for.

Secondly, feel the depth of your thoughts and write only what you feel yourself, without any templates, hints, and without looking back at the work of other authors. The essay should be “free,” so no limits and restrictions are unacceptable. Check writing paper onlineĀ

And thirdly, decide in advance in which “key” you will write the essay. If you are interested in how to write an essay correctly, then know that it can have several varieties: forecasts, stories, studies, sketches, reflections, essays.

Writing an essay on a book

To understand how to write an essay on a book, for example, if you are assigned a paper on one of the philological sciences, you will have to spend time either to read the book, at least “diagonally”, or to read reviews from several critics on this book to understand what it is about.

Since essays are free genres, there is no limit on their length, but teachers may set an upper limit on the volume of the work. But, nevertheless, don’t strain yourself and don’t write whole volumes: 4-7 pages will be quite enough. By writing an essay, the teacher is unlikely to be interested in your thoughts, but such work will allow you to learn to express your thoughts more coherently, to learn to track cause-and-effect connections, to learn, in principle, to express your thoughts – many are not able even to do that. To make it easier for you to start work, be guided by the approximate structure, which, as elsewhere, consists of an introduction, the main part, the conclusion. On average, a student needs 1-2 days to study the topic and 1 day to write a paper.
