Portillo- Overview
Portillo is famous for its famed Chicago hot dogs, Italian meat sandwiches, a Chocolate cake made from scratch, and cheese fries. The Italian beef is slow-roasted for up to four hours, thinly cut, then served with freshly-baked French bread. Then, it’s done with hot gravy that we make using our blend of spices which we’ve perfected for fifty years. Have you tried Portillo’s yet? Take a bite of Italian beef, drizzled with hot or sweet peppers (add mozzarella when you’re feeling cheesy), or a Chicago-style hotdog “dragged through the garden,” and you’ll be able to see what all the fuss it has.
The History of Portillo
The year was 1963 when Dick Portillo invested $1,100 into a trailer of a tiny size to establish the first Portillo’s Hot Dog place in Villa Park, IL, which he named “The Dog House.” In the years since, Portillo’s has become a name associated with Chicago. We’re like a giant dill; many believe there’s no true journey to Chicago without eating at Portillo’s. It’s good to know that die-hard fans and newbies alike can pick from Portillo’s restaurants as we’ve expanded to over 70 locations across various states.
