MEXT Scholarship 2024/2025 is available to fully fund international students in Japan. The scholarship is made open for undergraduate, master, and Ph.D. Even those who want to go for training studies can apply for the MEXT scholarship.

The scholarship would cater for the complete tuition fee, accommodation for the student, monthly living stipends and travel expenditures from the student’s country down to Japan.

The MEXT scholarship is offered by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan. They offer this scholarship to students internationally. International students who desire to pursue their academic career at Japanese universities as undergraduate or research (master / PhD) would be offered the scholarships. Suppose all necessary requirements are met.

The MEXT scholarship will be announced by April 2024, you just need to get all of your documents ready before then. Knowing Japanese Language and IELTS/TOEFL is not compulsory for this scholarship, so you do not need to worry. 

Meanwhile, you would need to apply for this scholarship through the Japanese Embassy in your country.

The MEXT scholarship sponsors different kinds of courses as long as the university you are aiming for offers them.

The program period for this scholarship differs depending on the area of study. Oftentimes, undergraduates take 4 to 5 years, Masters take 2 to 3 years, and PhD takes 3 to 4 Years.

MEXT Scholarship 2024/2025 Coverage and Benefits 

The MEXT Scholarship covers all the tuition fees of the international student. It would also provide the following benefits for the student:

  • Monthly Stipends and Preparatory Allowance (2024 Rate) will be provided
  • Tuition Fees would be fully paid to the university. Meanwhile, Fees for the Entrance Examination will be paid by The MEXT Scholarship board.
  • The MEXT Scholarship would cover your travel ticket to Japan.
  • Suitable accommodation would also be provided for the student.

Criteria to check eligibility for MEXT Scholarship 2024/2025

  • All countries in the world are eligible.
  • The required language is the English language.
  • The applicant country must have diplomatic relations with the country of Japan.
  • Applicants with Japanese nationality are not eligible for the MEXT Scholarship.
  • For Undergraduate Students: The student must be between 17 and 25 years of age. The student must also have completed pre-undergraduate studies.
  • For Masters / PhD Students: The student must be below 35 years old and a graduate of an accredited institution.
  • For Teacher training students: The student must be below 35 years old and a graduate from an accredited teacher training institution. Also, a minimum of 5 years of working experience is needed to be able to apply.
  • For Japanese Study Students: The student must be between 18 and 30 years of age.

Step-by-step procedure to apply for MEXT Scholarship 2024/2025

1. You first need to locate the Japanese Embassy in your country.

2. Then you would visit the official website of the Japanese Embassy of your country. 

3. At the Education / Scholarship section, you will locate the MEXT scholarship.

4. Download and fill out the MEXT scholarship application form.

5. You would be required to submit some documents (list given below) to the Japanese Embassy of your country.

6. After which you would write a written test.

7. You would then be interviewed.

8. Successful candidates will be informed through email or the embassy website.

(1) MEXT Scholarship Application form, which would be downloaded from the website

(2) The highest degree verified with official stamps from your previous institution.

(3) The highest degree Transcript from a previous institution verified with official stamps. (Including grading system)

(4) Two recommendation letters

(5) Passport Scan

(6) Curriculum Vitae (CV) (for research students)

(8) Study plan / Statement of purpose. 

(9) English Language Proficiency Document.

(10) Academic thesis or relevant publications (for research students)
