This scholarship at McGill University, is Canada’s premier scholarship for master’s and professional degrees.

Applications are now closed for the 2024 cohort, but the exciting news is that applications for 2025 admission open on June 1st, 2024!

This scholarship seeks individuals who demonstrate:

You are eligible if:

  • You are a current student on track to earn your bachelor’s degree by August 2025.
  • You completed your bachelor’s degree within the past five years (since January 2019 or later).
  • You obtained your bachelor’s degree over five years ago but are currently 30 years old or younger in 2024.
  • You have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (cGPA) of 3.0 out of 4.0. However, some departments may have additional requirements, potentially necessitating a higher CGPA.

Deadlines:

  • Canadian/U.S. university students/graduates and Canadians abroad: September 25, 2024.
  • All other applicants: August 21, 2024.

Also note:

  • Full-time study required (45 credits or more).
  • Separate application to McGill’s graduate program(s) mandatory.
  • Graduate certificates, executive master’s programs, PhDs, and joint degrees not covered.
  • Qualifying-year students are eligible to apply for their upcoming master’s degree.

Do you need to demonstrate English proficiency for McGill University?

Whether you need to prove your English language skills depends on your unique situation.

You DO need to demonstrate English proficiency if:

  • Your mother tongue is not English.
  • You haven’t earned (or are about to earn) a degree from:
  • A recognized Canadian or American institution (regardless of language).
  • A recognized foreign institution where English is the primary language of instruction.
  • You haven’t lived and studied/worked for at least 4 consecutive years in an English-speaking country.

You DON’T need to demonstrate English proficiency if:

  • English is your native language.
  • You earned (or are about to earn) a degree from:
    • A recognized Canadian or American institution (regardless of language).
    • A recognized foreign institution where English is the primary language of instruction.
  • You’ve lived and studied/worked for at least 4 consecutive years in an English-speaking country**.

Also note:

  • Even if you qualify for the “Proof of proficiency not required” category, your desired McGill program might have higher English language score requirements. Always check the program-specific details.
  • If required, you can prove proficiency through TOEFL, IELTS, or McGill’s own English proficiency tests. Duolingo English Test (DET) is not accepted for graduate programs.

Hence, check if you fall under any of the “Proof of proficiency not required” conditions. If not, be prepared to take an approved English language test and meet the necessary score for your desired program.
